Book Review: ‘The Bitter Past: A Novel’ By Bruce Borgos

Porter Beck is the Sheriff of a small Nevada town north of Las Vegas. It’s a combined force with the former police department, and there’s some resentment against him. His father used to be the Sheriff, and Porter’s past in the army, and as a spy in Russia are part of the reason he’s in charge. When a former FBI agent is found murdered, it opens up a whole can of worms that has to do with the Cold War, Russian spies, and nuclear tests back in the 50s. Then FBI special agent Locke shows up in town to investigate, which means there’s a lot more going on. Then other murders take place, a young girl goes missing, and shocking reveals show the past can never stay hidden, This is the first novel with this character, and it is great. The story is intense, and engaging, and hopefully there will be a lot more novels with this character. Fans of action thrillers will love this one.
