The 26th novel in the series is another great thriller featuring Kay Scarpetta, who is Virginia’s chief medical examiner. The novel opens with Kay testifying in a murder trial that has the area in an uproar. She is claiming that the evidence the D.A. has is wrong and that the defendant may not be guilty. As soon as she finishes her testimony she and Marino are called to the site of a murder, the woman is a CIA office and the sister of the judge that is overseeing the murder case. When Kay gets there after going through a lot of security involving the FBI, CIA, local police and the Secret Service, she notices that things don’t look right at the house. Then on the way back they stop and find another murder at a local shop and also that the President was in town earlier and someone attemped to take him out. As Kay and her Secret Service husband investigate, it leads to the previous examiner and his records, which could be a key to solving who has committed the two murders and attempt on the President. Filled with great supporting characters, including Marino (my personal favorite), readers of the series will be happy with this one.
