I love historical fiction novels and the latest from author C.W. Gortner is great. I always learn something new when I read about someone or something I had never known about before. This book is about the life of Jennie Jerome Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill. I had never heard about her before or knew anything about her. She was a force to be recknoned with and for a woman of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, she didn’t fit the typical woman of her day. She was born in America to a rich father, who sometimes lost his money and a society driven mother, who never quite made it. She was taken to France as a young girl, to learn how to be a proper woman and meet the right man and be part of society. She met Lord Randolph and they ‘fell’ in love, though I am not sure she truly loved him. They married and moved to England, had two boys, Winston and Jack, had an understanding about their lives and she even dablled with the Prince Of Wales and even married younger men and caused scandals. But Jennie didn’t care and she would do what she wanted when she wanted, all while still being mostly included in society. If you’re a fan of this genre, you will really enjoy this book.

You can pick up The American Adventuress in stores on Tuesday, September 22nd from William Morrow Paperbacks.
