Book Review: ‘The Investigator: A Letty Davenport Novel’ By John Sandford

I am a big fan of John Sandford’s novels with Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers. And now he has done a spinoff novel featuring the daughter of Lucas and it’s a great start to a new series. Twenty-four year old Letty Davenport has seen more in her life then most people her age, being the daugher of Lucas Davenpoet. Before Lucas adopted her, she had her own run-ins and learned about life on her own. Now she works for a U.S. Senator and frankly she’s bored with the job. After she does an undercover job for his office, he tells her he will get her a job in investigation, in conjunction with Homeland Security. Several oil companies in Texas has reported oil being stolen, so Letty and her new partner from DHS Kaiser take off for Texas and begin investigating. When dead b=odies show up they know they’re getting close to figuring things out. But what they find is a lot more than stolen oil and it also puts their own lives at risk. We learn a lot about Letty via flashbacks and the character is really flushed out nicely for the reader. We also get some cameo appearances from Lucas as well. A fantastic start to this new series.

You can pick up The Investigator in stores on Tuesday, April 12th from Putnam.
