The Heywood Hills bookstore in London is the setting for this duel story-line novel by Michelle Gable. It’s a historical fiction look at the life of Nancy Mitford and her life in the 1940’s and Katie’s today, as she looks back at the woman she has idolized for many years now. It’s an intense story that has your attention from beginning to end and you won’t want to put down.
Katie has decided to go to London to visit her friend and hopefully clear her writers block. She had one best-selling novel years ago but nothing since. She happens by the Heywood Hills bookstore and it’s where Nancy Mitford worked many years ago. She soon learns they have papers of hers and possibly a biography she wrote but never had published. She also runs into Simon, a teacher from London, who has an interest in Nancy as well. She soon learns of his connection to her and they team up to try and hunt down what they can. Katie is even thinking of writing a book on Nancy. She and Simon grow close and the more digging they do, things are revealed and we learn about Nancy’s life via flashback chapters and watch Katie and Simon grow close. The question remains was there a secret book written or not?
You can pick up The Bookseller’s Secret in stores on Tuesday, August 17th from Graydon House.
