American Killing is a very complete story. It’s told clearly and concisely and the character development is A-1. The main character Jeb is like many living today in that he is a bit of a sociopath seeking worldly connections. In Jeb’s case, his connector is his art and writing and when that is threatened, we begin to see who Jeb truly is. Jeb simply wants to create something special that he’ll be remembered for and that will propel his career forward and unfortunately for him, he’s tasked with working next to the laziest and most inept group in his estimation. Something must be done, and Jeb sees to it that something is done. Something memorable!
Jeb and a group of writers are placed in a cabin aimed to improve their group thinking and approach to a writing project. Everyone other than Jeb shows disregard for the show and its needs. Everyone also is allowed to continue working while Jeb is forced off of the project. What is Jeb to do? He’s been betrayed, disrespected and overall hurt by this. What would any sane person do? Fortunately for Jeb he isn’t sane or and his dismissal turns his life chaotic as he seeks a way to make them all pay for their crimes against him.
American Killing is a direct and fulfilling film detailing the lengths one is willing to go to, to ensure others feel as he has felt. How the downtrodden feel each day. Treatment is everything in a film and the writers of American Killing created such a character and world that the outcomes are very organic. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and I know others will as well!
