A page-turning tale of suspense that has the reader engaged right to the shocking ending you don’t see coming. Author L.C. Shaw has a great book to end the year with. A suspenseful thriller with a great lead character in Jack Logan.
Journalist Jack Logan gets a late night visit from U.S. Senator Malcolm Phillips telling him he’s in trouble and will most likely be killed. He asks him to look after his pregnant wife Taylor (who is Jack’s ex. and the love of his life that he screwed up many years ago) and to get her to safety. Just after he gets to the house, two men show up and they have to go on the run with her adorable dog Beau.
Not quite understanding what is going on they start investigating what her husband has done. He voted no on a bill that was expected to pass with his support. Could that have been the reason? He left a letter for Taylor that tells them to look for Jeremy and explaining the bill had a something in that was bad. As she reads through it she sees it has to do with pharmaceutical bill. They are constantly being chased and barely getting away. They are being left clues along the way to find Jeremy.
Once they do find Jeremy they learn the shocking truth. A dangerous man named Damon Crosse runs the Institute, that is very powerful and has its hands in almost everything. Congress, courts, people that they trust and has a dangerous plan for the world. The man is a madman and Jeremy soon tells them shocking truths that go back many years and also has affected Jack and Taylor. They can’t really trust anyone and soon are betrayed and have to come up with a plan to end Damon once and for all. It leads to a shocking climax and an even more shocking ending.
If you’re a fan of these type of thrillers you will love this book. Not sure if this is the start to a series with Jack Logan or this is a one and done. Here’s hoping to more adventures with Mr. Logan.
