Author Michael Rutger is back with his second novel featuring the character of Nolan Moore. Nolan is the host of a YouTube show called The Anomaly Files. This time he and his crew head to a small California town called Birchdale. A 14 year old girl has gone missing and it’s been 10 days now. Nolan’s ex-wife is currently there looking into the case. She tells Nolan and he decides it might be good for his next show.
The town is small and quiet. There are these ‘walls’ in the woods and surrounding areas that are interesting to look at. As they and Kristy investigate they find nothing of use about the missing girl Alaina. Weird things have been happening to them as they are in this town. Mysterious crashes, people in mirrors, strange voices and other things they can’t understand. Just as they are about to leave Alaina suddenly shows up. She claims she was lost in the woods. Nolan and everyone decide to stay and see what else they can find out.
More strange things start to happen, rains keep coming and a mysterious fog roles into town and one of the crew has gone missing. Nolan is determined to find out what’s going on soon learns the secrets of this small town and it now might be too late for him, Kristy and his crew to survive this mysterious thing that is taking place.
A great supernatural story with great characters and lots of twists and turns that keeps the reader wondering what the hell is going on. I found I couldn’t put the book down wondering what was behind the mysterious things that were going on in this town. I didn’t read the first book but I am hooked on this series now and hope author Michael Rutger will be writing more.
