Rye McKenna is on the phone with his wife who’s at the mall where there’s a mass shooting going on. He’s trying to guide her out of the mall to safety. He thinks she has gotten out when he hears her being gunned down. A few months later still at a loss a mysterious man approaches him. Would he like to get revenge on the man who took out his wife? The man who was reported dead is not dead at all. It is arraigned for Rye to take care of the man.
How was this done? A very rich man named Rask has a lot of power. He wants Rye to join his small team of people that he is giving second chances to. Rask is dying and he needs the best people to go on a quest to find the one thing he thinks can save his life. They need to find a painting with a secret map that will lead them to magical stones from a lost city. It is isn’t easy as they begin their journey they are being followed by another group of a brotherhood who want the painting for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.
It takes them to Europe and then to the Far East and the very top of mountains that could be the very end of them. Still pursued by the Brotherhood it will take everything in them to find what they are looking for and some may not survive. And what they do find will shock them to their cores. But will it be enough to save Rask?
The story kicks off strong and never lets up. The adventures are thrilling and what these characters go through are just breathtaking. Author Ronan Frost paints a great picture of what exactly they are doing and it makes you feel like you are there. I am not sure if this is the start of a series of books but I for one am done for more adventures with this cast of characters.
You can pick up the book in stores on Tuesday, May 21st from St. Martin’s Press.
