When someone takes a break for a little bit, you often question whether they still got it or not. That is not the case with Louis C.K. and his Emmy Award-winning show “Louie.” He’s back with the laugh-out-loud, weird, uncomfortable and creative stuff we loved in the previous three seasons.
“Louie” is one of the very few shows that I can’t wait until the DVD or Netflix. It’s a show that is funny, yes, but also hugely relatable. I imagine many viewers have experienced the situations this show covers, from trying to sleep while people outside your apartment are making loud noises to being asked by an overweight girl if she’s fat or not. So what is there to gain from watching a show that presents such unpleasant situations and asks us to relive them?
It’s great shows like this, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” that bank on this very question. It shows the main character acting on his everyday irritations only to have it kick him in the ass by the time the episode is over. That way you can laugh at the insanity while thinking, “Yeah. I know the feeling exactly” or “Man. I’m sure glad I didn’t do that when I was in his shoes.”
“Louie” is a fantastic show that tests your limits. And while some can’t handle the show’s honesty and laughter at our past embarrassments, the rest of us are having a great time.
Season Four is off to a cracking beginning, particularly the first episode titled “Back,” with its hard-hitting jokes. So, you’re in for more of the great C.K. giving us some of the best 22-minute long short films each week.
Season Four premiere of “Louie” begins tonight at 10 p.m. on FX.
