Paladin, in partnership with Accretion Films, will distribute AFTER, a haunting and powerful psychological thriller, on August 8th, it was announced by Paladin president, Mark Urman. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Pieter Gaspersz, who also produced with Sabrina Gennarino, who wrote the original screenplay. The film will be simultaneously unveiled on digital platforms and on DVD through Virgil Films who acquired all North American digital and home entertainment rights. Academy Award-nominee, Kathleen Quinlan toplines a cast that also features John Doman, Pablo Schreiber, Adam Scarimbolo, Diane Neal, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Bruno Gunn, Mandy Gonzalez, and Gennarino.
Set in icy upstate New York in the winter of 2002, AFTER is about the Valentinos, a middle class clan facing financial hardship–their family stone cutting business is slowly failing–and coping with the usual rivalries and resentments that affect all but their absent daughter, Samantha, who has recently escaped Rochester for a new life in lower Manhattan. At their center is matriarch Nora (Quinlan), whose cheerful exterior masks an emotional fragility of which the entire family is painfully aware and fiercely protective. But, their delicate balance is threatened by a carefully concealed secret that, once revealed, will change their lives forever.
About the film, Urman says, ”AFTER is an exciting debut that is thoroughly absorbing, beautifully acted and in a number of ways, genuinely surprising. Pieter and Sabrina are a fresh, new filmmaking team and I look forward to working with them.” Joe Amodei, President of Virgil Films, adds, “I am proud to be involved with this film, as it showcases such dramatic writing, acting, and directing. The entire cast is mesmerizing.” “Girl’s Gotta Eat Entertainment and Accretions Films are truly looking forward to this collaboration with Paladin and Virgil Films on our first endeavor. We couldn’t be more excited to have such an excellent team whose expertise has a proven track record. Our ‘labor of love’ couldn’t be in better hands,” say Pieter Gaspersz and Sabrina Gennarino.
Next up for Paladin is Michael Maren’s “A SHORT HISTORY OF DECAY” starring Bryan Greenberg and Linda Lavin, which opens in NY on May 16th. Michael Walker’s Hitchcockian thriller, “The Maid’s Room,” opens this summer. Girl’s Gotta Eat Entertainment will follow with Gaspersz’s second feature, “PERICO” (Gaspersz co-wrote), their epic, Sci-Fi trilogy, “THE ORIGINALS “ (co-written with Gaspersz and Gennarino) and “CRAFTIQUE,” written by Gennarino.
