Movie Review: ‘Welcome To Willits’

Review by Caitlin Zeigler

Courtney (Anastasia Baranova) returns home from school to be with her Aunt Peggy (Sabina Gadecki) and Uncle Brock (Bill Sage). They grow marijuana in the backwoods and somehow Brock thinks he was abducted by aliens. To make matters worse, when Brock decided to make a batch of crystal meth and was missing an ingredient, he improvised. Brock and Peggy think doing the meth will help stop the aliens from getting into their heads. They also decide to fight back. Unfortunately, the aliens are just teens hanging out in the woods and it becomes very dangerous for anybody to be in woods. Brock and Peggy also think the aliens are trying to get to their niece, so they tie her up. She has to escape as the teens in the woods also have to try and do.

The teens were just looking for a place to hang out and, at first, it seems like they would be in danger for being around the weed. Besh (Karrueche Tran), Zack (Garrett Clayton), Jeremiah (Chris Zylka), Possum (Rory Culkin), Klaus (Thomas Dekker) and Cassie (Keelin Woodell) only end up running in to trouble because Zack wondered off. Will anyone survive?

This movie is bad and it’s meant to be that way. When you think people on drugs are capable of doing terrible stuff, you’re like, “Well, yeah”. It’s full of teenagers who make questionable decisions, so you’re not shocked when they get what happens to them. If you love bad horror movies, you’ll love this one. It has good pacing and the acting isn’t bad. There is also a bonus cop show playing in the background of the movie starring Dolph Lundgren (Derek), Shad Gaspard (Captain Carter) and Serge Levin (Jackson).
