Movie Review: ‘Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return’ Is A Nice Treat For The Family

Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, is a 3D animated musical which simply put, is like a part two to the classic Wizard of Oz film. After returning from the wonderful land of Oz, Dorothy (Lea Michele) awakes in Kansas post-tornado and realizes that her home and the entire city is ruined. Before she can begin to repair her life in Kansas though, the Scarecrow, Lion, and Tin Man, summons her back to Oz to help them with their latest villain.

Just like the classic, Dorothy and Toto make the journey down the yellow brick road headed to Oz but this time, she meets three new characters along the way: a fat owl named Wiser, a marshmallow man named Marshal Mallow, and Miss China Princess who’s made of china. Together, they must make it to Oz to help her original friends.

Dorothy is hailed as the famous witch killer for defeating the “Wicked With of the West” and is considered everyone’s hero. Now, she must battle the wicked witch’s brother, the evil Jester (Martin Short) and his flying monkeys before he turns all of the important people of Oz into puppets.

No matter how many times you watch the Wizard of Oz, it never gets old. With Legends of Oz, the younger generation of children are introduced to the wonderful characters and the land of Oz, bringing back so many memories for those that grew up on the original. After seeing Legends Of Oz, it definitely makes you want to watch the classic all over again.

Of course in 3D like just about all animated movies now days, beautiful, bright and bold colors make for a great digital picture. Certainly one of my favorites, Legends Of Oz is a nice treat for the family and keeps the original characters alive in our hearts. This really makes you wonder, shall a real, Wizard Of Oz Part 2 be released? I certainly think so!

Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is released in theaters throughout the US & Canada on May 9, 2014.
