Blu-ray Review: ‘Annabelle’ Will Scare You

Review by Monique Thompson

No doubt this is the perfect time of the year for horror movies! Fans of The Conjuring will recognize the devilish looking porcelain doll who’s now the main attraction. Carrying the name of the film’s title, Annabelle is given as a gift from husband John to his expecting wife, Mia. Mia is an avid doll collector so hubby John is sure she’ll love Annabelle. However, things become wickedly evil shortly after Annabelle’s arrival in their home. Their home is invaded by a Satanic cult and things take a turn for the worse. Annabelle is possessed by a demon that intends to take the soul of Mia and John’s unborn daughter.

While dubbed the prequel to The Conjuring, Annabelle is very similar to Dead Silence which wasn’t a bad movie at all. Unlike DS though, Annabelle is set in the 1970s so it seems intentionally, some of the scenes were set to look cheap in order to have that retro feel. Regardless though, you should expect to be scared because Annabelle offers many frightening moments. With the loud noises accompanied with the flickering of lights, for surely your subconscious fears will be rattled.
