Review by Monique Thompson
At the end of his marriage, David leaves on a business trip to give his wife much-needed space. When airplanes start mysteriously falling out of the sky and cell towers fail across the nation, he finds himself trapped. The Earth falling to an alien invasion, David fights to return to whatever is left of home.
Sci-Fi film, Alienate, has a pretty interesting trailer and synopsis, but when it comes to the actual film….not so much. Science fiction films, especially those about an alien invasion, is already a little suspect as it is. I mean realistically are aliens going to really take over the world….not exactly.
In Alienate, the main character is David, a workaholic who’s on the brink of divorce from his estranged wife. While away one day, all hell starts to break through in the world. From the moment the film starts, things are extremely weird and it’s not because of aliens or UFO’s. The film starts at what seems to be the middle but there’s never that “3 months earlier” flashback. Like I literally had to look and make sure I hadn’t accidentally skipped to the middle of the movie.
From that point on, things get worse and unfortunately this is a waste! The acting is so blank and emotionless, if that even makes any kind of sense. The trailer seemed so promising but talk about a complete let down. The multiple flashbacks are just draining and aside from the terrible acting, is without a doubt a complete fail.
