Synopsis: From executive producers Mark and Jay Duplass (Room 104, Togetherness), On Tour with Asperger’s Are Us is a six-part, half-hour documentary series that follows Asperger’s Are Us, a four-man comedy troupe made up of friends with Asperger Syndrome, as they set out on their most ambitious tour yet. Challenging themselves to get out of their comfort zones, members Noah Britton, Ethan Finlan, Jack Hanke and New Michael Ingemi hit the road for a six-week, multi-city journey from Boston to Los Angeles, sharing their unique perspectives on life as an “Aspie” and the community they’ve found in performing together as a comedy troupe. Traveling and living together in an old RV, the foursome weathers highs and lows, playing for alternatively enthusiastic audiences and nearly empty houses, dealing with group tensions and a busted RV that often leaves them stranded on their journey. Upending misconceptions about both autism-spectrum disorders and traditional comedy, this intimate and humorous docuseries is an underdog story that features a group of talented and funny performers who embrace their shared challenges while working toward one overarching goal: to make people laugh.
Asperger’s Are us – Troupe Bio
Asperger’s Are Us is the first comedy troupe composed entirely of people diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. They met in 2005 when New Michael Ingemi, Jack Hanke, and Ethan Finlan attended a summer camp where Noah Britton was their counselor. Since 2010, they’ve written and performed over 100 original sketch comedy shows in 9 countries, and done countless interviews in local and national press.
They stay away from relatable or observational comedy or references to autism, instead focusing on deadpan wordplay and dark absurdism, comedic styles that typically appeal more to a subset of people with Asperger’s. They’ve performed with Emo Philips, Joe Pera, Jamie Loftus, Kenny “K-Strass” Strasser, and Vermin Supreme, among many other great comedians.
