Gravitas Ventures has secured worldwide rights to “Fursonas,” an eyebrow-raising documentary from director Dominic Rodriguez that explores the world of “furries,” enthusiasts who enjoy dressing up in animal costumes. Following a premiere at Slamdance on Friday. January 22, the film will be released On Demand this Summer.
In “Fursonas,” director Dominic Rodriguez approaches a contained, protective community filled with rumors and misconceptions, unafraid to be shot down by his subjects. The whistleblower film oscillates between the fantastic and the unusual, with moments of awe and wonder slapped against harsh reality. The audience delights in infiltrating the fun and sometimes dark secrets of an escapist community. “Fursonas” finds both friends and furries in the most unusual places and the unexpected around every corner.
Gravitas’ Sr. Director of Acquisitions, Dan Fisher, stated that “Gravitas is excited to work with this passionate filmmaking team on a truly unique documentary that skillfully treads the line between satirical jab and love-letter to the furries community.”
“I’m ecstatic to be working with Gravitas. The most important thing to me is that this film is able to get out there and be seen by anyone who’s interested. Now that dream is finally becoming a reality!” said director Dominic Rodriguez
Executive Producer Danny Yourd from Animal Media Group added “The entire filmmaking team is thrilled to be teaming up with Gravitas. Their enthusiasm and vision for this film felt like the perfect strategy to bring it to audiences.”
