‘Egypt’s Greatest Mysteries’ Preview Thursday

The Pharoah and the Showman premieres Thursday, February 16 at 10/9c
As Egypt opened its doors to European travelers, one Italian circus performer, Giovanni Belzoni, turned in his tricks for some new explorations. In the early 1800s, his first finding was a large granite bust of an unknown pharaoh. With this mysterious pharaoh statue, Belzoni uncovered many more Egyptian remains, but only later did archaeologists discover the bust belonged to Ramesses II – a statue seen in the British Museum to this day.

For Giovanni Belzoni, Egyptian breakthroughs keep coming. In a land filled with beauty, Belzoni comes across the tomb of Seti—the most beautiful in the Valley of the Kings. While at Abu Simbel, he unearths the entrance to the mysterious sand-covered temple of Ramesses.
