Alan Turing was a codebreaker during WWII and a damn smart man. He invented a machine that could go back in time and send messages to himself, which he could use to change the outcome of things. He calls the machine Nautilus and keeps it hidden in a secret vault under Harrods in England. He only tells Joan, the woman he loves and has a baby with, even though he is gay, it was a one-time thing. He swears her to keep it a secret and shows her how to use it. She will pass it down to their son and son on. It has a fail-safe on it, so if an enemy should find out about it the machine will be destroyed. In the present day, Annabelle is shocked to learn this shocking secret and that of her father, David, who was the son of Alan Turing. She is now in charge of the machine and has to make decisions about when to use it, if she should use it, or destroy it. This is a great historical fiction novel, based in part on the life of Alan Turing. It’s the debut novel from author Nick Croydon, and it’s a winner. The books start off strong and never lets up. It’s one of those books you do not want to put down.
