Book Review: ‘The Secretary: A Novel’ By Catherine Hokin

A dual-storyline setting between WWII and the fall of the wall in East Berlin. In 1940 Magda is working as a secretary to one of the higher-ups in the SS for Hitler. She’s against the war, and what’s happening to the Jews. She’s copying, and giving information to try and help them escape. Trying to protect the man she loves, and to keep herself alive. In East Berlin, in the early 80’s Magda’s granddaughter Nina has the same rebellious strike as she does. She is opposed to the wall, and how the police treat people. She also knows that Magda has secrets, and is determined to find out they are. It means going to the west, and some secrets are better left not known. Fans of WWII novels, with secrets, and twists will enjoy this one.

You can pick up The Secretary in stores on Tuesday, January 24th from Grand Central Publishing.
