Book Review: ‘The Midnight Witness’ Is The Next Thrilling Louise Rick Story

Author Sara Blaedal is back with her ninth Louise Rick story. And my first time reading one and another detective series to add to my growing collection of characters.

A young woman is found dead in a park by a man walking his dog. At around the same time a journalist is also found dead in a different part of town at a hotel in Copenhagen. Detective Louise Rick is assigned the young woman case. She is currently without a partner who is on leave. Here best friend Camilla, who is also a journalist and knew the murdered man, is asking her for some scoop on the cases. As Louise starts her investigating she is soon dragged into both cases. Seems Camilla is starting her own investigation into what killed her co-worker and it drags Louise into it.

As the police try to close in on a big time drug lord they think is involved in the murder of the journalist, Camilla has other ideas. She starts nosing around in the wrong place with Louise by her side and it could lead to her being in danger. When another of Camilla’s co-workers is found dead she more determined to find out what is going on. And could be the end of her as well.

Louise also has to deal with her personal life as her boyfriend is given a new job opportunity and it could spell the end of their relationship. But first she must protect Camilla but first she must find the murderer before it’s too late.

As far as the story goes it’s standard police/detective fair. Louise Rick is a determined woman in a mans world and having to put up with what goes with that. The story builds nicely to a shocking reveal and climatic scene of survival. From the looks of it there are more stories coming with Louise that I will be happy to read.

You can pick up the book in stores on Tuesday, October 23rd from Grand Central.
