It’s the summer of 1939 on the French Riviera, and it’s the first ever Cannes Film Festival. For Annabelle Faucon it’s going to be a busy time at the hotel, which is full of movie stars, studio people, and other paying guests. She is picked to work with an actor and a writer, and to keep an eye on them. Then things get a bit dicey when Nazi guests arrive, and with Hitler in power, and invading other countries, it puts people on edge. Then a top-rated tennis player is found murdered, and it is revealed that there are spies in the hotel, and Annabelle learns her uncle may be one of them. This is a great historically based novel that looks at the first festival, has well-written characters, and a story you want to keep reading. Historical fiction readers will enjoy this one.
