Ariel works for her family’s business, Chime Co., which sets up ring cameras for homes and businesses, and has contracts as well with law enforcement. It’s a multi-million dollar company, started by her father, who died five years ago, and her uncle Ray. It was five years ago she and Drew, one of the programmers, started dating and fell in love, until he vanished, and was presumed dead, never saying goodbye to her. She found herself pregnant, and had a boy she named Buzz, after Drew’s nickname. Now today, after five years, she gets a text saying meet me in an hour, something has happened. When she shows up, nobody else does. She decides along with Zane, one of her co-workers, to do a deep dive into Drew at the company, and his personal life, with what little info they have, and what they find leads to very bad things, murders, and Ariel and Buzz having to go on the run, and hoping to find the one person that can keep them safe. This is the debut thriller from author Bowen, which weaves a love story, betrayal, and murder all in one. It’s a solid, by the numbers book, but also a bit predictable.
