The 34th novel in the series revisits the character of Gary Murphy, aka Gary Soneji, a serial killer, first introduced in the very first Alex Cross novel, Along Came A Spider. In this book, we flashback to 1985, when Alex first became a detective, becoming partners with his long-time friend, John Sampson. We learn the origins of Gary Murphy, who started his killing spree back then. Alex is convinced that he is copying the Son of Sam murders, and several bodies are found, and a white van is the key piece of evidence. It is found, along with a lot of evidence on the land of two sex offenders who were released from jail and convicted of these murders. In the present day new evidence has been found that changes everything that happened back in 1985. This is a great flashback novel looking at Alex Cross and his start with the police force, his first spider, and his life with his first wife and young son. Fans of the long-running series will enjoy this one a lot. I sure did. James Patterson has done it again with this page-turning masterpiece.
