Book Review: ‘Read and Gone: A Haunted Library Mystery’ By Allison Brook

Author Allison Brook is back with book number two in her Haunted Library series with Carrie Singleton. This time her father Jim, who she hasn’t seen in years, is back and with him comes trouble. He’s been in jail and trouble for years. Now he has come back looking for stolen jewelry as part of a heist he did with local jeweler Benton Parr. He tries to reconnect with Carrie but she has her doubts. He confesses about them and wants her help. She refuses and he takes off.

Next thing you know Benton is murdered and Jim is being held in jail as a person of interest. He’s released but keeps finding himself in trouble. Even though she’s told to leave the case to the police she still digs into it and overhears conversations and talks to people associated with Benton. There’s more murders and one to solve the case may just be her adorable cat Smokey Joe (who everyone loves).

Also she is having issues with her new boyfriend Dylan when she finds out he is investigating her father. And she also has a ghostly time when her friend Evelyn visits her all the time at the library. Only one other person can see her and he visits are many and she asks a favor of Carrie. One that indirectly involves the murders and stolen jewels.

A fun, delightful murder mystery that has fun characters including Evelyn the ghost and a cute cat (anything with an animal I am all in for). Carrie is a force to be be reckoned with and I look forward to her next adventure with Smokey Joe!

You can pick up the book in stores on Tuesday, September 11th from Crooked Lane.
