Book Review: ‘Prince Lestat And The Realms Of Atlantis’

I am a big fan of the Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles books. I have read everyone since she started. I have read all the witch books. So I was excited when I read that she had written another one. I requested a review copy quite a few times (and thanks for sending me a copy!). I finished the book over two weeks ago and to this day I am not quite sure how I feel about this one.

Prince Lestat and The Realms Of Atlantis picks up where the last one ended. Amel is now inside Lestat insuring that the Vampires live on. It’s a love/hate relationship between the two. Lestat is now the Prince of the vampires. He leads the court, which includes all the elders and vampires we have come to know in previous books (including Louis) in making the rules that all will live by now. These are the parts of the book that I enjoyed.

We soon meet four strangers (who have been on earth for a long time) who have super human strength and the ability to reproduce from parts of their bodies. We learn that they have a history with Amel and soon they meet with Lestat and the court. We learn their whole back story (and it includes the lost city of Atlantis). They have their own plan which involves needing Amel out of Lestat (which could all the vampires if that happens).

This is where I don’t like the story. I don’t want to include any spoilers as to who they are or where they come from. It just didn’t work for me and I found myself disappointed in the story.

On my list of top Vampire Chronicles books this one would be very low. On the plus side if you didn’t hear Anne Rice has regained the rights to her books and characters and plans on making a TV show with them. She’s writing it with her son and she wants it by done in the style of Game Of Thrones! So in the near future we should hear more about this.

Here’s hoping for more vampire books with better stories!
