The year is 1954, and on Verona Island, owning a brothel is legal. Mrs. Lila Gulliver has owned hers now for ten years, and it’s a lot more classy than some of the others on the island. On this day a pair of sisters show up, and one of them is looking for employment in the house, as their uncle has died, he lost his fortune, and the sisters are broke. Carita is young, beautiful, and blind, but is smart and has a unique look, and is hired. When Ian Drohan comes to the house, he’s the son of a powerful judge, with his friend BB, who is the son of a powerful gang man, trouble soon follows. He falls for Carita, and they run away and get married. When Ian shoots a man, he is wanted by another powerful gang leader, and they go on the run. His father, Mike, and Lila become involved, and go looking for the pair. We follow along from this point as the days and weeks go on, and we watch their lives, and how they change, the consequences of their lives. This is a excellent character-written novel. You get invested in their lives, and want to read along and see what happens to them. You will not want to put this one down.
