I’ve read a lot of books this year some really good and some not so good. A few of them I have gone so far as saying could be book of the year. Well now I have another to add to the potential book of the year list. The Last Mrs. Parrish written by Liv Constantine and in stores Tuesday, October 17 from Harper is just an awesome well-written tale of sex, money and power and has some great twists and turns you don’t see coming.
Amber Patterson had a bad childhood and her adult life hasn’t been much better. On the run from her past (and things that could land her in jail) she’s now living in a small town outside of New York. She has a tiny apartment and barely makes enough money to get by. She has come up with a plan to change all that. She has targeted the rich and powerful couple of Jackson and Daphne Parrish. She befriends Daphne and soon they become really close. She tells her all sorts of lies and gains her trust and soon she is part of the family with Daphne, Jackson and their two girls.
Jackson is a rich, powerful, good-looking man. And Amber has every intention of making him hers. She uses every dirty trick in the book and soon they are having a sorted affair behind Daphne’s back. And she manages to get herself pregnant with his child (and says it’s a boy) the one thing he’s always wanted is a son.
But Daphne is no fool and soon we learn who can outplay who first and what revenge is really like. I am being a bit vague here so I don’t give any spoilers away. There are a lot of twists as I said earlier and just when you think you can’t feel any worst for Daphne things change really quickly. There’s more to Jackson and Daphne’s relationship then we see in the first chapter.
This is what I like to call a page-turner. I couldn’t put it down. The book is broken up into sections titled Amber, Daphne and they the final chapter. And man oh man what an ending!
Pick it up on Tuesday, October 17th, I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
