Nick Freeman has cerebral palsy, and needs the use of a walker. He is a school teacher by day, and hangs out and sings karaoke, at the local bar in Columbus, Ohio. Everyone who knows him finds him to be a great guy, who had his heart broken not too long ago, and now looks for one-night stands. Enter Hayley, who is at the bar, is a dancer, and has a boyfriend named Kevin, who also dances. They get off on the wrong foot, but there’s an attraction, and they slowly get to know each other, and become friends, who have misunderstandings a lot. He doesn’t think she would ever be interested in him because of his condition, but it doesn’t phase her. The more time they spend together, the closer they get, and when Kevin dumps her, they have a chance, until he blows it, and now he may have lost the woman he loves. This is a great rom-com, where you root for Nick and Hayley to be together, and also shines a positive light on people that suffer from cerebral palsy, like author Dutton does. This is his debut novel and it’s a winner. It’s early in the year, but will be one of my favorite romance novels come the end of the year.
