Book Review: ‘Can I Go Now’ Is An Awesome Look At Hollywood And Being A Powerful Agent

Ever wondered what it is like to be an agent in Hollywood (and the entertainment business)? Well have I got one hell of a book for you! Can I Go Now (Viking in stores now) by author Brian Kellow.

Sue Mengers was a woman in a mans world. From her early age she knew she wanted to do something in the entertainment business. She got her first job at a talent agency as a secretary. Working her way through different agencies, she soon found herself as an agent with a big talent roster of people including: Barbra Streisand, Ryan O’Neal, Ali McGraw, Gene Hackman, Faye Dunaway (who lived up to her reputation) and lots more big names.

You didn’t mess with Sue. She would broker deals unheard of before and wouldn’t back down from what she believe. A word she hardly would take was no. If you didn’t say yes right away she would hound you until you did (seemed to work about 95% of the time). Author Brian Kellow leave no stone unturned in this riveting biography of Sue. He goes back to her childhood and chronicles almost every year of her life. With great stories, quotes from her biggest clients and incredibly awesome research, you won’t be able to put this book down (I couldn’t).
