Charlotte Thorn is 27, lives in Brooklyn and has a job as an assistant to the CEO of a tech magazine, who is a real jerk. It’s time for an alumni weekend at her college, and she’s looking forward to it. She always felt safe there. She will get to catch up with old friends like Jackie, Nina and Reece, a man she had a friends with benefits relationship back then, and hopes she doesn’t see Ben, her ex and a horrible man. When she sees Reese it brings back old memories, and soon they hook up, and it feels good to both of them. Yet Charlotte is having flashbacks of bad times, trying to deal with her horrible boss, who’s giving a speech at the school and has to make dramatic decisions to move forward with her life. A well-written, character-driven novel, that engages you to follow along with Charlotte’s life and to root for her to make changes that make her happy. This is the debut novel from Ella Dawson and she’s done a great job.
