Book Review: ‘A Howl Of Wolves’ Is The Next Enjoyable Samantha Clair Mystery

New York Times bestselling author Judith Flanders is back with her fourth story involving Samantha Clair and the latest mystery she is involved in. Set in the theater in London it brings back Sam, Jake (her Scotland Yard detective boyfriend) and the people that live in her building.

Sam and Jake are at the theater to see the opening night of a new play featuring their upstairs neighbors. Jake is not thrilled about this but goes along. The play involves people being murdered and when the curtain goes up for the second act, a dummy is suppose to be hanging but in reality it’s a human man, one of the directors. It creates panic and horror. And with a member of Scotland Yard in the audience it gets an immediate investigation.

So now the question is who killed Campbell Davidson? There are quite a few suspects and as Jake and Scotland Yard begin their investigation, Sam starts her own. Soon she learns things about the people that were putting on the play. When another person is found dead, it ramps up the case. Soon Sam finds more information that could put her life in danger.

The best part of the story are the additional characters in the story and especially Sam’s mother Helena and her shut in neighbor upstairs Mr. Rudiger. The story has a few twists and turns and is a standard fare murder mystery that is enjoyable for the characters and their relationships to each other.

You can pick up A How Of Wolves in stores from Minotaur Books on Tuesday, May 15.
