Book Review: ‘A House Divided’ Is The Next Thrilling Lincoln And Speed Novel

Abe Lincoln and Joshua Speed are back for their fourth adventure in A House Divided. In the winter of 1839 and a man has been murdered (no body was found though). A brother has confessed his two brothers did it. Abe Lincoln is soon assigned as the lawyer for one of them. He and Joshua quickly start investigating and things don’t add up about this alleged murder.

Things between Lincoln and Speed, who are like brothers, quickly go bad over the one Mary Todd who is now in town. Both are wanting her for themselves and it causes a fight between the two. They go a while not talking to each other and as the trial draws near they need to be on the same page.

Will Lincoln be able to find the evidence he needs and repair things with Speed before it’s too late?

Author Jonathan F. Putnam bases these books on actual things that happened with Lincoln and Speed. It’s a fascinating look at these two men before Abe became President. They make for great historical novels and are enjoyable books to read.

You can pick up A House Divided in stores on Tuesday, July 9th from Crooked Lane.
