When the first trailer hit for ‘Man with the Iron Fists’ it looked amazing. It had a great cast and the look of a soul successor to the ‘Kill Bill’ films. And then the film came out and it was a huge letdown. It was a terrible movie that drowned in its own hype.
Now, a sequel has emerged. The aptly titled ‘The Man with the Iron Fists 2’, and it is a surprisingly decent film, all things considered. It is without a doubt better than its predecessor despite losing most of its star appeal (RZA is the big carryover, but since he was a writer for both films this is not surprising).
The new film picks up in China after the events of the first film with an injured Thaddeus (RZA) being discovered and helped by the inhabitants of a small village. As he is nursed back to health Thaddeus is dragged into a conflict that threatens the existence of the village. He has previously vowed to pursue a more peaceful and less violent way, but that vow may have to be broken in order to protect his newfound friends.
‘Iron Fists 2’ has a surprisingly compelling story. Like its predecessor the film attempts to recreate the kung fu epics of old, but fortunately for this sequel this time its plot works. The film’s story has a lot more depth and is actually entertaining. On top of this the film boasts great action and cinematography. This is a visually appealing action flick with some great fight scenes.
While ‘The Man with the Iron Fists 2’ will never make ‘Man with the Iron Fists’ any more tolerable it at least improves upon the character and story. It is a fun action movie and entertaining watch.
