Blu-ray Review: ‘The Scorpion King 4: The Quest for Power’ Is A Fun Action Packed Movie

In most instances the fact that a movie is the third direct to DVD sequel is a fairly good hint that a film is going to be less than great quality. Surprisingly, ‘The Scorpion King 4: The Quest for Power’ is actually an entertaining and decent action movie. It’s not going to win any awards or be on anyone’s top films list, but it is nevertheless a fun watch.

Mathayus (Victor Webster), a mercenary sent on a royal quest, is betrayed by his apprentice and left for dead. Drazen (Will Kemp), said apprentice, betrayed him for an ancient artifact with the potential to give its holder untold amounts of power. The betrayal leads Mathayus to a far away foreign land in search of his rogue apprentice where he joins up with the rebellious Valina (Ellen Hoffman) and her father (Barry Bostwick).

Perhaps the thing that makes this new ‘Scorpion King’ so entertaining is that it does not take itself too seriously. It does not pour on the mythology. Even if one knows nothing about the story driving the titular character they can still enjoy the film. It is also slightly funny, but only just enough to compliment the film’s action (of which there is plenty).

Fans of great b movie action flicks should really enjoy ‘The Scorpion King 4: The Quest for Power.’ It is an enjoyable and action packed film well worth the mindless entertainment it provides.
