Blu-ray Review: ‘Magic Mike XXL’

Review by Monique

The Kings of Tampa are back, minus one, in Magic Mike XXL! Dallas (played by Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike) has jumped ship and gone internationally to start his own production, and Magic Mike now owns his own moving business. The remaining Kings of Tampa, Ken, Big D!ck Richie, Tarzan, and Tito are still entertaining women but must find a way, and another member, to get to the Male Exotic Dancer convention.

They devise a plan to get Mike to come back in town and agree to accompany them on the trip to Myrtle Beach for the convention but the road there certainly isn’t a smooth one. From mishaps on the road, to costumes being thrown out of the window, to their hype man being hospitalized, things can’t get any worse for these guys as they try to perform one last showdown.

Yes, Magic Mike XXL has definitely amped up the gyrations and visual sexual stimulation of these handsome hunks of actors and professional dancers portraying male exotic strippers; brilliantly might I add. However though, the plot is actually decent and much better than the predecessor Magic Mike. This time around, there’s actually more humor and it almost gives that Hangover type of vibe throughout the movie, with a bonus in the form of abs of course! The acting from the cast this time is really solid and if male viewers can dismiss the fact that there will be half naked men, they’ll actually enjoy the movie. The ladies on the other hand, will have no problem enjoying what Magic Mike XXL has to offer.

Starring: Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Elizabeth Banks, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover Jr.), Jada Pinkett Smith, and Michael Strahan

Available in stores on Blu-ray/DVD on Tuesday, October 6.
