Blu-ray Review: ‘Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom!’

Despite clearly being aimed at kids there is something endearing and entertaining about a Lego Justice League movie. “Lego Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom” features the borderline slapstick and absurdest humor that the Lego brand has successfully woven into many of its franchises. It will have kids laughing at its silly puns and visual gags that transcend any real knowledge of the DC heroes and villains.

Beyond this typical Lego humor there is also a dearth of inside jokes and references that DC enthusiasts will enjoy. Kind of like a ‘Robot Chicken’ for kids the Lego films offer a rare outlet for normally serious franchises to poke fun at themselves in an often hilarious fashion. There an ocean of films aimed at children that offer nothing to any audience. This is the beauty of the Lego films, and ‘Lego Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom” is no exception.

The plot of the film is pretty straightforward for a superhero flick. Lex Luthor and Darkseid are planning to take over the world, but in order to do this they must beat the Justice League, who have been hindering their efforts all over the place. It is soon realized that the only way to defeat a league of superheroes is to create a league of villains to match them. The legion of doom is born and if the Justice League are going to stop them they must get a little better working together.

‘Lego Justice League: Attack of the Legion of Doom!’ is a silly but entertaining kids movie that offers something for adults as well as children. It is everything that a direct to video Lego film should be, and hopefully future releases will maintain this level of quality and respect towards the franchises they encapsulate.
