Blu-ray Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Complete 4-Film Collection’

Review by Lauryn Angel

The Hunger Games series reached its cinematic conclusion last November, and coinciding with the DVD/Blu-Ray release of the fourth film comes The Hunger Games Complete 4-Film Collection on six discs.

The series is the story of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), a young woman from District 12 who volunteers to fight in Panem’s annual Hunger Games in order to save her sister Prim (Willow Shields) from almost-certain death. Katniss is accompanied to the Games by her fellow tribute, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), and her mentor, Haymitch (Woody Harrelson). As Katniss and Peeta find out, winning the games doesn’t mean they can go back to quiet lives in District 12, as Katniss’s rebellious attitude has caught the ire of President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland). The series chronicles Katniss’s struggles to survive as she is rapidly transformed from beloved victor into hunted traitor.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay– Part Two is the final film in the series, and it is perhaps the most action-packed, as Katniss and Peeta make their way into the Capitol for a final showdown with President Snow, accompanied by fellow rebels Gale (Liam Hutcherson), Finnick (Sam Claflin), director Cressida (Natalie Dormer) and cameramen Castor (Wes Chatham) and Pollux (Elden Henson).

The six-disc set includes the four films, with the extra features from the original dvd releases, plus 13 never-before-seen deleted scenes from the entire series. The box set also includes two new featurettes: “Picturing Panem” and “Capitol Cuisine.”

Most fans probably own the previous three movies, but there are sure to be those who will want to grab this set for the extra features.
