Blu-ray Review: ‘Black Nativity’

BLACK NATIVITY
Cast: Forest Whitaker, Angela Bassett, Tyrese Gibson, Jacob Latimore, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson
Director: Kasi Lemmons
Release Date: April 15
Studio: Fox Home Entertainment

Musically, The Black Nativity is a great film about the importance of forgiveness. Based on the Langston Hughes play, teen Langston (Jacob Lattimore) is sent to spend the holidays with his mother’s (Jennifer Hudson) estranged parents in New York City. While there, Langston struggles to fit in and will uncover a few secrets about his childhood.

The Black Nativity features great musical numbers by Mary J Blidge, Jacob Lattimore, Luke James, and Tyrese. The film jumps around a bit though which makes for a confusing and not so easy to follow story. However, if you’re only paying attention to the music, you’ll be in for a treat.
