One Night in Miami (Movie, Amazon Prime)
Regina King’s directorial debut delivers an eye opening look at the black experience in America, but the unique part of this film is who’s telling the story. Malcom X, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke, and Mohammad Ali (back when he was still Cassius Clay) are placed together on the eve of Cassius Clay becoming the world heavyweight champion. What ensues is a discussion about the very nature of being black in America and how to navigate each one of their professions. The script is smart and the dialogue is delivered in a way that feels right off a Broadway stage. This is a don’t miss for any fan of these legends and anyone who’s interested in racism from another perspective. Easily in the Top 5 of the year!
