The 45th annual USA FILM FESTIVAL runs April 22-26, so expect film lovers to be out in full force this week. Features include: short films, student films, repertory film, independent narratives, documentaries, and classic/rare films. There is also a special “Dinner and a Movie” event featuring guest Chef Mokoto Suzuki.
The festival has always been committed to paying tribute to those so important to our enjoyment of movies. This year’s tributes and honorees included: Arlene Dahl, Pat Boone, Diane Baker, Margo Martindale, Tab Hunter, Glen Morshower, and Ernie Hudson. Renowned moderators include: Stephen Tobolowsky (actor, author, social media contributor), Peri Gilpin (Roz on “Frazier”), fashion guru Jan Strimple, and Film Professor-Historian-Author Foster Hirsch.
Fashion is the headliner this year with the screening of two anxiously awaited documentaries. On Thursday, director Frederic Tcheng takes us behind-the-scenes of the Christian Dior fashion house with DIOR AND I. Mr. Tcheng will take the stage for a post screening Q&A moderated by Jan Strimple. On Friday, 93 year old fashion icon, Iris Apfel, will be in attendance for the screening of IRIS, after which she will graciously participate in a Q&A.
Saturday’s schedule is jammed with exciting events: former matinee idol Tab Hunter will be in town for a screening of TAB HUNTER CONFIDENTIAL; a Short Film showcase includes a tribute to Margo Martindale; and the Jules Verne classic JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH will be attended by the film’s stars Pat Boone, Arlene Dahl, and Diane Baker.
There are many other unique presentations available for viewing, and same day tickets are available at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station. For more details and a full schedule, go to www.USAFILMFESTIVAL.com or call 214-821-FILM
