Review by Monique Thompson
GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea.
A Gentleman’s Guide To Love & Murder is musical comedy at its finest! Monty Navarro will do anything, including murder, in order to to be in the line of inheritance from the D’Ysquith family. Playing at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in the Winspear Opera House, Gentleman’s Guide is filled with a huge burst of energy right from the start. Immediately, the elaborate stage set will capture your attention as the entire cast opens with a musical number that immediately captivates the audience.
There’s not a one dull moment the entire 2 hour duration. From the humor to the singing, Gentleman’s guide is perfection. The musical numbers are just enough to carry the energy from one scene to the next without being overpowering. For musical comedy lovers, A Gentleman’s Guide is a Tony Award winning musical surely worth a see!
