Popcon 2019 Preview

By James Lindorf

It is that time again! Many of your favorite artists, authors and celebrities are going to be gathering at the Indianapolis Convention Center. From June 7th through the 9th you will get the chance to hear insider stories, learn about upcoming projects, buy unique art or hard to find comics, and see amazing cosplay at the 5th annual Indy PopCon.

This year’s celebrity guests include a pair of Shield Agents, Natalia Cordova-Buckley (Yo-yo) and Henry Simmons (Mac), as well as a pair of Super Troopers, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske. They will be joined by Asher Angel from Shazam, legendary voice actor Phil Lamarr, original Green Ranger Jason David Frank and many more.

If you’re more into comics than movies and television, don’t worry, some of the great creative forces of the comic world will be in attendance as well. You could meet Heather Antos who worked on Star Wars and Deadpool for Marvel before taking a new role at Valiant earlier this year. Artists Mark “Tex” Texeira, who has worked for Marvel, DC and Image Comics, and Alex Saviuk, who has drawn every major Marvel and DC character, will also be there. These great names barely make up the tip of the iceberg of this year’s PopCon guest list.

You can download the official PopCon app to keep up to date on the schedule of panels and events. There are events for families and others that are 18+ only. There are events for fans of all genres; video game and board game events and even an escape room. The highlight events are the podcasting awards on Friday night and the official after-party Saturday night. Game of Thrones’ Kristian Nairn will be Hodoring down the music for the night with Jason David Frank serving as the host. If that isn’t enough reason to attend, the after party is also the site of the conventions Cosplay Contest.

Doors for PopCon open at 1pm on Friday and 10 am on Saturday and Sunday. VIP ticket holders get access 30 minutes earlier every day as one of their perks. The main hall closes at a different time every day, so make sure you download the app and plan out your day. Tickets for all days are still available. The only package sold out is the standard VIP ticket. However, there are still VIP packages with Rick and Morty’s Justin Roiland, which include a whole host of bonuses. There is a lot more information to see on the website. They can even help you save money on a hotel. Stay tuned to Red Carpet Crash for more convention coverage and exclusive interviews.
