Movie Review: ‘Santa Claus’

A perfect movie for the holidays, ‘Santa Claus’ takes its viewers on a joyride around Paris. When a cute little boy Antoine dreams about his gifts one night before Christmas, he cannot believe his luck on meeting the real Santa Claus. Though the magical figure in disguise has different plans than delivering out Christmas gifts, he is eager to rob luxurious apartments and homes. The burglar’s fancy plans of climbing into towers for gold are crushed when little Antoine considers him as the real Santa Claus. What sets out as a stealing adventure transforms into a fun exercise when the cute boy refuses to leave Santa alone.

Not afraid of venturing out of his house late at night, Antoine follows Santa Claus with a hope to ride on his sleigh. Actor Tahar Rahim poses as the tough burglar who makes every possible attempt to get rid of the dreamy boy. Acting as a cute boy Victor Cabbal embarks on exciting adventures and does not leave Santa for his share of unexpected fun. Both the actors have done an incredible job forming a cute association. Victor’s innocence and cuteness in association with Tahar’s tough image are some of the best aspects of the movie.

Though the movie strives to depict adventures on the night before Christmas, the little boy’s partnership in burglaries seems a bit odd. It is not really cute when the audience get to see the dangerous activities performed by the child. Though it retains comedy, humor and funny situations between the two characters, the story goes off when it focuses on how the child helps in the stealing process.

The movie brings a unique plot, combining fun of Christmas with blunders of robing. An overall entertainer perfect for the holiday season, it is interesting to see our dear old Santa in a different role. Stepping out from his child friendly image to a dangerous burglar appearance adds novel elements of entertainment.

Whether Antoine succeeds in getting his dream sleigh ride or ends up into trouble for heading out of his house late at night is an interesting story till the end. Does the burglar protect the little boy or steals his innocence takes the tale forward.
Watch the cute association between Santa Claus and the little boy, while waiting for the magical day of Christmas.
