Gravitas Ventures Acquires North American Rights To ‘Amanda & Jack Go Glamping’

Gravitas Ventures has partnered on North American rights to Amanda & Jack Go Glamping, a quirky, romantic comedy from writer-director Brandon Dickerson. The film will premiere at the Austin Film Festival at the end of the month before debuting in theaters and on demand on November 10.

With his marriage on rocky ground, dejected one-hit-author Jack Spencer (David Arquette, Never Been Kissed) goes “glamping” with his wife, Amanda (Amy Acker, “The Gifted”), in search of a spark. When the isolated retreat suddenly becomes anything but private with the arrival of double booking honeymoon hipsters and a super-hunk landowner (Adan Canton, “Designated Survivor”), Jack must learn to get over himself as he dives deep off the grid into a comedic exploration of love, failure, relevance, and miniature donkeys. Academy Award® nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) also stars.

Although technically a “work of fiction,” the story of Amanda & Jack was inspired by the truth of Dickerson’s own journey as he wrote the story specifically for—and filmed the movie at—his own “Green Acres” homestead-turned-Boutique Glamping Retreat where he and his family lived for several years along with a couple of donkeys and alpacas who earned featured roles in the film, too!

“I wanted to explore a playful, comedic take on more personal themes of identity and fear related to career, parenthood, and marriage. Being from California, tiny-living in a 1955 Spartan trailer on raw land outside of Austin, TX provided a wealth of material to craft a fish-out-of-water journey for Jack,” said filmmaker Brandon Dickerson.

Gravitas Director of Acquisitions Josh Spector shared “There’s so much to love about this film, from the charming setting to the talented cast of acting vets, supporting superstars and even featured creatures. It was love at first sight when we saw Amanda & Jack Go Glamping.”

In addition to directing and writing Amanda & Jack Go Glamping, Dickeron produced the film with Cathleen Sutherland (Boyhood) and Susan Kirr (Spring Breakers). Erik Lokkesome (Last Days in the Desert) is the Executive Producer.
