One of the surprise hits of the 2016 TV season. When the President and every other member of Congress is killed during the State Of The Union speech, the only person left is Tom Kirkman (Keifer Sutherland), the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. There’s always one person from the cabinet that is held in a secure place just in case of any events like during the speech. That person is the Designated Survivor.
So now Tom has become the President of the United States. Something he never wanted to be and is ill prepared for the job. He has to take it and now he and his wife Alex (Natascha McElhone) who becomes first lady, have to lead the country. The job takes its toll on both of them and their kids. As Tom wants to do things his way, he is constantly being questioned by those around him. He mounts an investigation into who planned the attack not knowing that was just the beginning.
A great premise for the show and a great supporting cast Adan Canto as Aaron Shore; Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes; LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter; Kal Penn as Seth Wright; and Maggie Q as Hannah Wells.
It’s well acted and written and in today’s world it also seems like something that really happen. If you are a fan of political shows like The West Wing and Quantico, this fits right in.
You can pick up Designated Survivor: The Complete First Season on DVD Tuesday, August 29.
