‘Broken Horses’ is a mystery directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It’s a remake of a Hindu movie from 1989 called Parinda.
It stars María Valverde, Thomas Jane, Anton Yelchin, Vincent D’Onofrio and Sean Patrick Flanery. The story follows two orphaned brothers Buddy (Chris Marquette) and Jacob (Anton Yelchin) who lead different lives. Buddy is recruited by Julius (Vincent D’Onofrio) and made into an assassin. Jacob is the good one who’s a violinist auditioning for the New York Philharmonic and ready to get married.
Jacob must return to their hometown (which is desolate and dreary) to receive his wedding present from his brother. Returning to town brings up old wounds and forces big decisions by both brothers. Wanting Buddy to quit his ways, Jacob tries to convince him. Julius won’t hear of it and Jake soon comes up with a plan that may get him killed.
A story about brotherhood doesn’t quite hit all the high marks but still makes for an enjoyable ride with a good cast.
‘Broken Horses’ is available in stores on Tuesday, September 1.
