Dallas Theater Review: ‘Stomp’ Is For Everyone To See

Review by Monique Thompson

STOMP is explosive, inventive, provocative, witty, and utterly unique—an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered armfuls of awards and rave reviews and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. Year after year, audiences worldwide keep coming back for more of this pulse-pounding electrifying show. – Dallas Summer Musicals

STOMP brings the phrase, ‘the world is music’s playground’ to life! In this explosive production, the dance troupe orchestrates an entire music production with everything except for your conventional percussion instruments. From trash cans, to inflatable inner tubes, to their bodies, even Zippo lighters, all become the forces behind the loud booms and bangs that rhythmically fill the auditorium. With no dialogue needed, each number is tightly synced, all the way down to how the troupe drags their feet across the floor. STOMP is show-stopping thrill right from the beginning and keeps the high energy throughout with the comedic gestures throughout and rounds of audience participation. This is surely one for the books to see!
