Author Jack Carr is back with his follow up to his awesome first book The Terminal List with True Believer. James Reece is back and is wanted by the US Government for the events of the first book. Basically alone and dying of a brain tumor he has taken off by sea and headed to Mozambique. He never expects to even make it there but somehow he is still alive. He goes to the a Safari Camp run by his best friend (or former best friend at the moment) Uncle Rich Hastings. He is taken in no questions asked and even helps with the poachers that come around.

In England and other cities terrorist attacks are taking place and the world is shambles. Markets are falling, oil prices are rising and the hunt is on for who is responsible for the attacks. It gets narrowed down to Mo, who was once trained by American forces who is Iraqi. He is wanted for questioning and only one man may be able to find him and that is James.

Soon James is visited at the Camp and offered a deal. He will be given a complete pardon in exchange for helping his country out. He accepts and is soon on his way. But not everything is as it seems and he soon finds himself in tricky situations and learns there is corruption within the CIA and must battle many times to stay alive and it all leads to a climatic showdown where not everyone will survive.

This book is awesome. I didn’t read the first one but read up about it. He follows up very nicely and gives enough backstory so the reader understands what is going on in this novel. If you’re a fan of the action genre this is right up your alley. The back is even more interesting because of Jack’s history he had to get permission from the Department of Defense to publish the book. And that took six months to do. And parts of the book are blacked out. Here’s hoping we have more adventures with James Reece.

You can pick up True Believer in stores on Tuesday, July 30th from Atria.
