Book Review: ‘The Mother-In-Law’ Is A Twisty Great New Novel From Sally Hepworth

Following last years great book The Family Next Door author Sally Hepworth is back with her great new novel The Mother-In-Law. It’s a twisty story of family and murder with so many twists and turns you won’t want to put it down. A real page turner of a story that looks like it’s going one way and then it takes a turn to make you think something else until the climatic ending.

This is the story of Lucy and her Mother-In-Law Diana. It spans over ten years and their relationship and that of their families. Diana never like Lucy from the beginning but for the sake of her son she put up with her. Diana and her husband are rich but Diana doesn’t believe in giving out money. She feels her kids should have to work hard for what they need.

The story goes back and forth over the years and we learn early on that Diana has died. It appears to be suicide at first but the police said it looks more suspicious and might be murder. Lucy and Ollie her husband are questioned as are Nettie and her husband Patrick. As the story goes along we learn all sorts of secrets about the four of them as well as about Diana. Everyone has their own secrets and it looks like one of the four might be one of the killers.

You can pick it up in stores on Tuesday, April 23rd from St. Martin’s Press.
